Emerald Ice: Generations

The Baby Boomers

While Margaret and Raleigh's kids were all born during the years considered to be the Baby Boom Generation, 1946 to 1964, herein the generation is considered to be those over 50. That is, we're the older generation, and some of us are actually starting to feel that way. Most of us are married with children - ok, so we're all married with children - and most of us have grandchildren. We tend to think a little differently than our children, and wonder if our grandchildren are really human - or perhaps a human computer hybrid! You'll find us in the first column of the Quick Links to the left.

Generation X

The New Silent Generation

The New Silent Generation started in 2000, most of our grandchildren belong to this group, and they definitely are not silent! Those that don't belong get to be honorary members, much as Niall gets to be an honorary Generation Xer, even though he was born smack in the middle of the Millenial (Generation Y) Generation years. Some of them met Grandma Gatton, but more did not. As the youngest generation, they are exposed to many things the others weren't. It's a whole new world out there, Norma Jean! They're located in the third column of the Quick Links to the left, right after mom and/or dad.

Baby Boom Generation

Generations X & Y

Generations X and Y span the period from 1964 to 1994 and almost all of the boomer's children were born during this time. Lissa, the eldest was born in '71, while Niall, the youngest didn't appear until '97. All met Grandma Gatton; some were privileged to spend extensive time with her. These were the first to be influenced by the ubiquitous video game consoles from childhood on, and the ones who first wholeheartedly embraced the subsequent handheld technologies. As the middle generation, it is fitting that they are found in the center column of the Quick Links to the left; only their parent(s) are ahead of us.
